Car Lift Guide & Information
Hello again, welcome back to Cheap Car Tyres. The best advice you can find on car tyres anywhere on the internet. Thanks for returning!
The car lift was an important part of my daily work routine whenever I was changing cheap car tyres or inspecting faults on any vehicle that came into the garage. There are many ways to use this equipment, and all these uses require the utmost precautions put in place because you need to be safe and efficient when using any type of car lift.
When using car lifts, always make sure that the vehicles engine has been switched off, gear stick in neutral and that the doors of the car are secured shut. Luckily all vehicle lifting equipment should have security blocks as standard to ensure that the subject is in a secure state. Always keep a close eye on any small movements made by the vehicle and check the sturdiness of the security blocks to double make sure that everything is held in a safe manner.
When you have made all your initial safety checks you are ready to now raise the vehicle lift. Make sure to slowly start to raise the lift and continue to keep an eye on the stability of the car in question. Also remember to decrease the speed as you reach the top because there is always a risk that you may suddenly move the vehicle at the top of the car lift. Once the vehicle has got to the top of the lift, lock everything in place and you should be all set.
Safety Measures When Using The Car Lift
When changing car tyres using a car lift allot of mechanics get fearful due to the thought of such a heavy vehicle above them supported only by the lift. You must maintain a safety mindset when working with vehicle lifts.
A regular mistake that in some cases have proven fatal is to not load the lift in the correct manner. This can be down to a number of things such as the load is too heavy for the lift, the load is too large or it could be that the load is not an even weight. Always check with the manufacturers guideline manual that should come with the vehicle lift, this should contain information such as maximum load weight & size restrictions for the lift. One more aspect to be aware of is not to raise the load above the manufacturers recommended level.
Other methods in increasing the safety of these machines is to consistently clean and maintain the parts. This will greatly reduce the risk of having any accidents. Remember, safety is the most important factor when dealing with lifting a vehicle, the smallest mistake can be deadly and from my own personal experience in 1982 I actually witnessed a good colleague get crushed due to lapses of concentration in the safety process.
Advice When Buying Car Lifts
With all the safety precautions out the way, there is no getting away from the fact that the car lift is an important piece of equipment for anyone in the repair industry. My advice when buying a car lift is to establish exactly what it is you need the lift for and make sure the one you decide to purchase ticks off all your boxes, price is not something you should be considering when buying these. Its all about your personal specification and the safety of yourself and those around you.

If you are looking to buy car lifts for domestic use, you should think about getting one for your garage. These are good investments as it will give you more freedom to do your own repairs as opposed to taking them into a car mechanic. It could potentially save you allot of time and money.

For professional use I would recommended going after more robust auto lifts. This is due to the amount of use you will be getting out of them from your clients and customers. It must be mentioned that these more robust lifts do demand a fair bit more maintenance than their home lift counterpart. If you are needing to work on your cheap car tyres and are in a position to buy a car lift for your business then make sure you have the resources available for a professional mechanic to clean and maintain it. Remember to look after your car tyres and look after yourself!
