Looking For Cheap Part Worn Tyres For Sale? Read On Before You Make A Purchase.
First of lets no doubt you have asked yourself the question “where can I buy cheap car tyres?”. Well lets start with what cheap part worn tyres actually are. These are tyres which have been used before on another vehicle, they are also known as second hand tyres. The vast majority of this type of tyre currently gets imported from continental Europe. Germany have a booming part worn tyres industry and they are usually most common.
There can be common issues with a part worn tyre, this is mainly due to them being sold with 50% less tread on them when compared to new tyres. They usually are found to have at least a few thousand kilometres behind them too. With this noted it must be understood that cheap part worn tyres for sale are still used tyres.
So always be cautious when deciding to purchase them. Most cases however the tyre will be perfectly road worthy but you should always check with the previous owner or garage if they have been in any bumps or collisions. You must know these things as there is a chance that damage caused in the past may be irreparable now.
Due to this type of tyre being second hand, their asking price is relatively lower than new tyres. This of course, is possibly the number one factor that these cheap part worn tyres are so enticing to the buying driver of the vehicle. It can be this attractive price that enables buyers to continue to keep their car running and road legal. The vehicle industry (most notably the tyre companies) proceeds to warn every one of the dangers of used tyres, however both sides of the coin must be dutifully considered before a legal decision was made.
The official stance on used tyres from the trading standards officers is to continue to make the buyer aware/beware that they must consider all the decisions before going ahead with a purchase. This seems like a healthy option as long as the vehicle owner is aware of the difference in safety from a tyre that is worn to the legal limit as opposed to a tyre that is half worn yet in all other areas it is functionally sound.

If you do decide to go ahead and purchase part worn car tyres you should always have a demonstration of them being inflated prior to them being fitted to the motor vehicle, in addition to that you should also look out for any bulging areas or lumps on the tyre. Part worn tyres should always be investigated for things such as the aging of the tyre. If they do indeed show these aging signs then it is best not to buy them at all. This advice should also be followed if you are looking to purchase part worn motorcycle tyres.

What The Legalities Are For Part Worn Car Tyres
Part worn second hand tyres are legally sold throughout the world (German part worn tyres for example). This is only possible however when they don’t have any of the following characteristics.
- Long cuts of more than 25milimetre that are deepened where they could reach the cord or ply
- Tears, lumps & bulges
- Non repaired penetrative damage
- Exposed ply or cord whether that’s internal or external
Proper official markings must be on the part worn tyres also. These need to:
- Display all the design and type markings, including things such as load and speed ratings.
- Display the words “PART WORN” in small capital letter (4mm in height)
- If they are to be sold on the rim then this must be internally inspected
After you read all of the above I hope you can now make your own opinion on whether or not you want discount tyres or part worn tyres. They certainly have their advantages and disadvantages over conventional cheap car tyres but always make sure you ask the garage questions first.
